Ministry of Magic Lands: Aug 24–30, 2026

Two new LEGO Harry Potter sets arrived on 29 August 2026: the 3,491-piece Ministry of Magic Collectors' Edition and Mini Hogwarts Castle, plus three gifts.

After 27 days without a single new set, LEGO ended August with two of them on Saturday the 29th — both Harry Potter, both tied to the annual Back to Hogwarts event, and one of them the most expensive set the theme has ever had.

76476 The Ministry of Magic – Collectors' Edition

The headline set runs to 3,491 pieces at US$449.99 / £389.99 / €429.99. It went on sale 29 August for LEGO Insiders on LEGO.com and in LEGO Stores, with general release following on 1 September. It marks 25 years of LEGO Harry Potter, counting from the first Philosopher's Stone sets.

The design is a split-level cross-section rather than a façade. London street level sits on top, the green Ministry building fills the middle, and the Hall of Prophecies in the Department of Mysteries occupies the bottom. Assembled it stands 51 cm tall, 35 cm wide and 15 cm deep.

The 2022 Ministry set and the 2026 Collectors' Edition are the same location at very different scales.

It is worth putting that next to what came before. LEGO already made this location: 76403 The Ministry of Magic arrived in 2022 with 990 pieces and six minifigures. The new one is roughly three and a half times the parts and more than twice the figures.

Those figures are the real draw. There are 14 minifigures plus a golden wizard statue: Harry, Ron, Hermione, Dumbledore, Sirius Black, Mad-Eye Moody, Nymphadora Tonks, Arthur Weasley, Kingsley Shacklebolt, Dolores Umbridge, Voldemort, Lucius Malfoy, and — new to LEGO Harry Potter entirely — Antonin Dolohov and Mrs. Figg. Moody, Shacklebolt and Malfoy are redesigns rather than debuts. A unique Lynx Patronus figure is included as part of the anniversary Patronus series.

Two play functions survive into a set at this price. You can flush a minifigure from the street-level toilet cubicle down into the Ministry, which is how wizards actually enter the building in the books. And the prophecy shelves in the Hall of Prophecies topple for the Death Eater battle.

The reviews were not kind

This is unusual enough to flag. Flagship LEGO sets normally get warm receptions, but 76476 did not. Brick Fanatics' review concluded that it "puts almost every foot wrong — from the price and the minifigure line-up to the layout and the execution."

The common threads in the criticism are the price against the piece count, and the cross-section layout leaving the finished model reading as three stacked dioramas rather than one building. If you were planning to buy on the strength of the subject alone, it is worth reading a full review first.

40975 Mini Hogwarts Castle

The quieter release of the two is the more broadly recommended one. 700 pieces for US$39.99 / £34.99, also out on 29 August as a LEGO.com and LEGO Store exclusive, measuring 17.5 cm wide by 13 cm deep by 15 cm tall. Reporting describes it as the smallest and cheapest complete microscale Hogwarts LEGO has made.

It covers the Great Hall, Main Tower, East Wing and Astronomy Tower, and hides two reveals inside despite the scale: a removable section opens onto the Chamber of Secrets, and another opening shows the Mirror of Erised. A short-leg Harry on a broomstick with Hedwig comes with it, on what Jay's Brick Blog flagged as a brand-new broomstick element debuting here.

Brick Fanatics rated it a good desk-sized display model and made a point worth repeating: the parts mix is chunkier than the price per piece suggests, so it is not a 1x1 grind. Their verdict on value was measured rather than glowing — an okay deal at £34.99 rather than a great one.

The Back to Hogwarts promotion

The event itself ran 29 August to 6 September, with Back to Hogwarts Day on 1 September. Three gifts with purchase came with it, all while stocks lasted:

  • 5011072 Ministry of Magic Phone Booth — a metal display trinket with a lenticular image of Harry inside the red telephone box, free with 76476 and restricted to Insiders buying from LEGO.com.
  • 40901 Ministry Munchies & The Daily Prophet Stands — 152 pieces on a US$130 / £115 Harry Potter spend. Three small builds designed to populate 76476's atrium, including a second Fountain of Magical Brethren, and two minifigures: Cornelius Fudge and a Daily Prophet vendor.
  • 30724 Dumbledore's Office with Harry Potter — a 42-piece polybag on a US$40 / £35 spend, with the Sorting Hat, the Pensieve, the Sword of Gryffindor and Fawkes.

Double Insiders points ran alongside on 27 Harry Potter sets in the UK and EU and 22 in the US, plus a 15% discount offer.

Worth buying?

The two sets pull in opposite directions. 40975 is the easy recommendation: small, cheap, self-contained, and it puts a complete Hogwarts on a shelf for under forty dollars. 76476 is the one to research before committing, because a poor reception on a US$449.99 set is a genuine warning rather than the usual grumbling about prices.

If the Ministry is the location you want and the Collectors' Edition looks like too much set, the 2022 version covers the same ground at a quarter of the parts.

How we dated this week. Release dates, piece counts and prices here come from LEGO's own announcements and from Brick Fanatics, Jay's Brick Blog, StoneWars, Toys N Bricks and Brickset, cross-checked between outlets where the date matters. Regional availability and promotion windows change without notice, so treat the dates as the week they were reported rather than a guarantee for your store.
