LEGO Ideas is a unique theme where fans submit their own set designs and the community votes on them. Designs that receive 10,000 supporters are reviewed by LEGO for potential production. Since 2011, the platform has produced dozens of official sets, from the Women of NASA to the Ship in a Bottle, the Treehouse, and the Medieval Blacksmith. Ideas sets are known for their creativity, originality, and appeal to adult fans, often featuring subjects that wouldn't appear in traditional LEGO themes.

1. 2008

   Theme launch as LEGO CUUSOO

   Original platform launches in Japan as LEGO CUUSOO. Crowdsourced fan-designed sets voted into production by community supporters.

2. 2011

   First international release — Shinkai 6500

   First CUUSOO set released worldwide. Validates the crowdsourced-design model at international scale.

3. 2014

   Rebrand to LEGO Ideas

   Platform rebrands to LEGO Ideas. Submission and voting process formalizes; required threshold of 10,000 supporters established.

4. 2017

   NASA Apollo Saturn V

   Set 21309 — one of the best-selling Ideas sets ever. Demonstrates that fan-designed sets can outsell mainline LEGO releases.

5. 2020

   Pirates of Barracuda Bay

   Modular pirate-ship-and-island set 21322 — Ideas reaches Modular-tier ambition in scale and detail.

6. 2024

   Concentric Castle

   First castle-themed Ideas release. Continues Ideas' role as the platform that fills gaps in LEGO's mainline catalogue.
