LEGO Speed Champions is LEGO's licensed scale-car line. Sets are 200–700-piece models of specific real-world cars — Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, McLaren, Aston Martin, Audi, Mercedes-AMG, Toyota, Ford, Chevrolet, Koenigsegg — built to a roughly consistent 8-stud-wide minifigure scale that makes the cars displayable next to each other.
The line started in 2015 at a slightly smaller 6-stud width, then upgraded to 8-stud width in 2022 to allow more authentic detailing. The 2022+ Speed Champions sets are the visual sweet spot: enough pieces to capture body lines, stickers and printed tiles for marque-accurate detailing, and minifigures in proper racing suits or driver-themed outfits.
What makes Speed Champions interesting for non-traditional LEGO fans is the licensing reach. Few other LEGO themes get this many licensed brands across automotive culture. Pop-Mart-tier collector behavior shows up here: people buy Speed Champions sets because they're fans of a specific car, not because they're LEGO collectors first.
Sets are mostly $20–50 each, making the line one of LEGO's most affordable licensed themes. For a fan of any specific marque (especially Ferrari, Porsche, and McLaren — which get the most regular Speed Champions releases), the line offers a buildable display option that costs a fraction of the larger Technic supercars (which cover similar ground at 2,000–4,000 pieces and $300+).
